2017-2018 Season Training Starts

A New Season Begins
BARC kicked off training for the 2017-2018 season on Sept. 19th. It's exciting to see a lot of new faces at training. Relocating to UHCL will have great benefits for recruiting as we've already picked up several students from the university.

Officers
President - Ian Bonner
Vice President - Scott Blackley
Treasurer - Chris Strickland
Match Secretary- Dundy Walker

Training Pitch Location
This season BARC has moved training sessions back to University of Houston - Clear Lake. The team trains on the Delta field behind the tennis and basketball courts.

Training Times
Training is every Tuesday and Thursday at 7:00 PM.

New Women's Team
We're excited to have added a women's team to the club. There are lots of women new to the sport coming out, so don't let a lack of knowledge of the game keep you from coming out. The women train on Thursdays from 7:30-9:30. Contact Lauren if you're interested in coming out.

Schedule
We're still looking to add friendlies to our schedule, but here is what we have as of right now.

New Season, New Faces, New Pitch

New Season
Bay Area is back into the full swing of 15's season with training sessions on Tuesday and Thursdays.

New Faces
Due to some great work by our dedicated officers we've seen quite the number of new faces out these past few weeks. Thursday training sessions have regularly hit 30, and our first 2 Tuesday sessions were off to a great start with 15 & 19 guys. It's great to see all the young new talent at training, and we expect them all to make a huge impact this season.

New Pitch
For those that haven't heard yet we'll be moving our home pitch from La Porte back to the center of Clear Lake. The new pitch is at Walter Hall Park (807 Hwy 3) in League City. While the La Porte pitch was a great playing surface we're hoping the move to a more central location will assist in building our support and fan base at home matches. Walter Hall has been the site of our annual Lone Survivor Tournament for the past couple years, and should make for a great venue for cup matches.

Tournament Update

The 4th annual Lone Survivor Tournament planning is coming along nicely. To date we have 8 teams committed for this year's event:
  • Bay Area
  • HARC (likely to bring 2 sides)
  • Katy
  • HURT
  • San Antonio
  • Austin Huns
  • Woodlands
We still have a couple spots available for teams interested. All the info can be found on the tournament info page under the About Our Club menu.

One exciting announcement is the addition of an old boy match this year. We were approached by the Kwagas a team of S. African ex-pats to host their match as a fundraiser for the J9 Foundation. The J9 Foundation was started by one of South Africa's most acclaimed players, Joost van der Westhuizen to help find a cure for ALS. For more info on the charity check out: http://www.texas9.org/

The plan will be for the Kwagas to take on the Austin Silverbacks in between the semi-finals and championship match. The South African community is very excited for this match and it should be a great time for another great charity.
